Due to a significant depopulation of rural territories over the latest years, in 2017 only 26,1% of the total population lived in rural areas, despite these covering a large part of Spain. Rural areas, clearly dominated by agricultural activities, face challenges like poor accessibility and connectivity, ageing population, and limited financial capacity of farmers and agri-food companies.
