In 2014, predominantly rural regions accounted for 51.2% of the national land and hosted about 39% of the national population. Polish rural regions contribute around a quarter of the total gross domestic product (GDP) of the national economy, and produce half of the total gross value added (GVA) in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector.
